Voorheesville Elementary School Weather Station!

The newly-installed weather station at Voorheesville Elementary School will allow all classes K-5 to have immediate web access via interactive SmartBoard to the latest local weather. Weather, seasons, and climate are an integral part of the elementary science and social studies curricula, and such information will allow students to engage in locally designed critical thinking activities. With regional climate being strongly affected by many local influences in the Northeast, and particularly Voorheesville, this data can be used and compared to neighboring school districts.

Classes will have the opportunity to analyze, track, and manipulate the available data, while also visiting the weather station first-hand to observe how it works. This instrument will also allow us to form a strong partnership with the University at Albany´s Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, thus strengthening school-community ties. The ability to more accurately predict snow days to compare rainfall to that of previous years, all grade-levels will have the chance to actively use this hands-on science outreach opportunity.
